HowTall — Privacy Policy
Effective April 29, 2026
HowTall is an iOS application that measures a person's height using your iPhone's camera and LiDAR scanner. This policy explains, in plain language, exactly what happens to data when you use the app.
The short version
HowTall does not collect any data. All processing happens on your device. No images, video, depth maps, measurements, identifiers, or analytics are transmitted to us or any third party. There are no accounts, no servers, and no tracking.
Data the app accesses on your device
- Camera and LiDAR feed. While the app is open, it reads frames from the rear camera and LiDAR scanner in order to detect a body pose and project it onto the floor plane. Frames are processed in memory and discarded — they are not saved to disk or transmitted off the device.
- Saved measurements. When you tap to save a measurement, HowTall stores the numeric height value and an optional photo snapshot in the app's local storage on your device. Only you can access this data; it is not synced or backed up to any HowTall server (it may be included in your standard iCloud device backup if you have that enabled in iOS).
- Sharing. If you tap "Share", iOS presents the standard share sheet so you can send an image to apps you choose (Messages, Photos, etc.). HowTall does not see or record where you share to.
Data we do not collect
HowTall does not collect, store, or transmit any of the following:
- Personally identifiable information (name, email, address, phone number)
- Account credentials (the app has no accounts)
- Device identifiers, advertising IDs, or device fingerprints
- Location data
- Analytics, usage events, crash reports, or telemetry
- Camera frames, depth maps, or saved measurements
- Contacts, calendar, photos library, or any other personal content
Third parties
HowTall uses no third-party SDKs for analytics, advertising, or attribution. The app links only against Apple's first-party frameworks (ARKit, RealityKit, Vision, SwiftUI, AVFoundation, and related system frameworks).
Children
HowTall does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children. The app may be used to measure the height of children when an adult operates the device; no data about the subject is transmitted off the device.
Your control over data
Because all data stays on your device, you control it directly. To delete saved measurements, remove them from the app's history view, or uninstall HowTall to remove all app data from your device.
Changes to this policy
If this policy materially changes, we will update the effective date above and update the in-app and App Store listings as needed.
