What devices does HowTall work on?
HowTall requires a LiDAR scanner. That means iPhone 12 Pro, 13 Pro, 14 Pro, 15 Pro, 16 Pro, or any newer Pro / Pro Max model. iOS 17 or later is required. The standard (non-Pro) iPhone does not have a LiDAR scanner and cannot run HowTall.
The app says my device isn't supported.
Your iPhone likely doesn't have a LiDAR scanner. Check Settings → General → About; only Pro / Pro Max models include LiDAR.
Camera permission was denied — how do I re-enable it?
Open the Settings app on your iPhone, scroll to HowTall, and turn on Camera.
The reading jumps around or feels off.
For the most accurate reading: make sure the subject is fully in frame (head and feet both visible), stand 2–4 meters away, and hold the phone in portrait so the floor plane is clearly visible. Bright, evenly lit rooms work best — LiDAR struggles in very dark spaces and on highly reflective floors.
Where are my saved measurements stored?
They live on your device only. Nothing is uploaded. Uninstalling the app will remove them. See the privacy policy for details.
Can I use HowTall to measure objects, not just people?
The current version detects human body pose specifically. It will not measure furniture, pets, or other objects.
